Frankenstorm: Just in time for Halloween!

If you aren't on the east coast, please whisper a few good words  that we all make it out of Hurricane Sandy without serious damage...so far not much in Vermont. It was looking awfully dark and ominous over on the other side of the lake (NY state) earlier, but the winds aren't all that bad and no rain yet.

Still, extra water buckets have been filled, the barns have been battened down, hay covered in tarps (our roof leaks when there's heavy rains) and the ponies tucked away in nicely bedded down stalls.

Vermont is at the tippy-top of that projected path, but we will likely be getting the remnants of this storm, and VT doesn't need any more rain...this fall as been particularly wet and the ground  is fairly well saturated. More rain, even if it comes evenly over a couple days, could cause serious issues. High winds will also be problematic, but I've seen the electrical companies putting together teams, and even a few trucks from HydroQuebec, one of the largest power suppliers for the eastern seaboard and New England, have come down to help...

Fingers crossed!
