This was some time in mid to late May, when the temperature swung 20 degrees between day and night. This was a good morning, it was around 7AM, beginning to warm up but still dewy from the cooler night.
Despite all kinds of grooming, I could never keep him clean. I don't know if it was blatant stubbornness or a true love of the grimy life, but Ernie was a connoisseur of dirt. He was very picky about where he would lay down: the wet to dry ratio, the soil type, grass vs. bare ground, etc. He preferred a bare patch, no grass, right after a rain shower, when the ground was still damp.Ugh that tail...it's been banged and cleaned up, and is longer now, but it's slow growing, that's for sure...
