This was some time in mid to late May, when the temperature swung 20 degrees between day and night. This was a good morning, it was around 7AM, beginning to warm up but still dewy from the cooler night.

Despite all kinds of grooming, I could never keep him clean. I don't know if it was blatant stubbornness or a true love of the grimy life, but Ernie was a connoisseur of dirt. He was very picky about where he would lay down: the wet to dry ratio, the soil type, grass vs. bare ground, etc. He preferred a bare patch, no grass, right after a rain shower, when the ground was still damp.

Ugh that tail...it's been banged and cleaned up, and is longer now, but it's slow growing, that's for sure...

You can see how fuzzy he still was. It took until almost the end of May for him to shed everything out...
