Do you smell smoke?

I. am. burnt. out. There is, however, still life in this body (sometimes, when I'm not totally drained from running around all day) and mind (well, actually, this may not be a true statement after all...)

This semester has been tough, both mentally and emotionally. The physical tiredness comes from dealing with the former two issues. I lack motivation a lot of the time, which is rough because Miss Stella is NOT happy when she isn't given something to do. The time of grazing all day has gone, and cold weather is finally settling into Vermont, so grass is scarce and the horse's are all a little hot due to lack of stimulation.

BUT, some things have been accomplished:

I finally got Stella her first Big Girl bridle. :) Pictures and awesomeness to come.

I am now officially off for Thanksgiving Break. I made it through this past week, which very well may have been the honest-to-God week from hell. But I made it, and I have 10 blissfull days of no classes.

Mama Mare has been super, super, super. Even in her weak moments she's a total all-star, and though she's been impatient with me the last couple weeks because of my lack of time to work her, when I do get her out she tries her heart out for me.

To come over break is what I hope will be a short series of posts on equine colic. It's pretty extensively studied but a lot of horse owners don't know much about it, how to prevent it, how to recognize and what immediate steps you can take to treat. I am happy to report that Stella has not had ONE bout of colic since she finished her GastroGuard treatments a couple months back. This series will discuss both my experiences with her and what I've learned, information I've personally researched, etc.
