It really is spring in VT: it was near 70 degrees today! (And it thunderstormed like a son of a gun...I mean BAD. And then it got sunny and almost humid after...gotta love VT weather!)
The other reason I know it's spring? Ernie is actually SHEDDING. Like, mounds of hair on the ground. I could stuff a small couch cushion or a nice throw pillow with all this hair (I've actually thought of that: no one would know the difference, right? You can't see the stuffing...although my allergic self decided it was probably going against my better judgement to do such a thing.)
Want proof? I wish these pictures did it justice. It's been like this every time I groom him for the past 2 weeks. And it KEEPS COMING...
That's Eryn standing awkwardly in the background. I betcha she's marveling at Ernie's amazing weight loss, too.
He's very dirty, so the weight loss will probably continue but in the form of coat filth. I've sort of *gulp* stopped being a grooming freak when it comes to Ernie. He's retired, so he doesn't really NEED to be spotlessly clean, right? Besides, he seems to enjoy rolling so much that I figured, meh, what the hell, what's the point. As soon as I turn him back out, he immediately walks outside, circles a couple times, then drops in the filthiest pile of muck he can find. After that, he walks jauntily back into his stall, obviously quite pleased with himself.
Right now he's just sort of...fuzzy. Only really dirty fuzz. Not like cute, teddy bear fuzz. You can't even tell his real color: when he's truly, deeply clean (which doesn't happen too often and when it does, it tends to be short-lived) he looks like this:
Granted, that's with his summer coat, but still...look at that shine!
Stella is also slowly shedding out, but she always looks pristine without me having to do all that much. She's a bit too much of a priss to go roll in a muck hole. She doesn't even like mud and puddles.
OH...
I have more pictures coming...of LBM and our 4th ride! It was spectacular, and there was even canter!!
