This was this past January. He's almost fully body clipped, but you can still see he's not really that skinny at all. He kept pretty good weight through the winter.
This was Ernie at the end of the school year when he was at the bad, bad old man's barn in May. Again, this is a good weight for him. This photo was also around the time he was needing his teeth done. A little Ernie History: he gets floated twice a year minimum, sometimes three times, and the first indication is ALWAYS a little drop in a weight. Then the balling of hay. Never fails. He actually didn't look too bad at this point; he was wasting a lot of hay, but the pasture he was on was rich enough to make up for it.
This was Ernie by the end of the July/beginning of August, right before I went back to school. He'd been out of work due to his popped hip, and you can see what that did to his condition.
Now, when he got back to school, right after he'd been chiropracted. I hate this photo, understandably.
I think the lighting accentuates his ribs quite a bit, but even with normal lighting you could easily see each individual rib, and all of his points, particularly the hooks on his hips, were very noticeable. Even Donnie said when he walked off the trailer he looked like hell.
Normally, I'd insert a fantastic picture of him currently, all trimmed up and spiffy looking. I will, when I get my ass to a computer lab to download the photos. My computer hates me. For now, you'll just have to believe he looks fantastic. He's been cleaning up almost all his hay, on good pasture most every day all day, and has been supplemented up the wazoo. I'd like him a little fatter before winter, but where he's at now is good. For a little over a month of being back home where he feels safe and comfortable and happy, he looks great.
